Types of Orthotics / Insoles
Different materials are used depending on the condition e.g. knee problems require orthotics that not only give control and stability but also great shock absorption.
Shock absorption orthotics rather than a rigid orthotic is more suitable to protect the knees and back. Equally good for diabetics, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis.
‘Off the shelf’ v Bespoke moulded orthotics
Bespoke Moulded Orthotics
From the plaster cast or scan, bespoke moulded orthotics are made, making corrections to any problems in the feet e.g. flat feet or dropped ‘metatarsals’.
The podiatry laboratories do the corrections from their moulds and make the appropriate type of orthotic be it semi-rigid or a softer orthotic. Equally important are the measurements and biomechanical analysis which only Podiatrists who are lower limb specialists are able to provide.
Sport
Designed for extra shock absorption from the impact of sports and every day gym workouts. Can also be worn in trainers for general wear and comfort.
Golf
Designed to cope with the various terrains and a perfect fit into golf shoes. Patients have noticed an improvement in their technique and swing!
Football
A slim fit model of our sports orthotic. This is perfect for football boots and other similar sports shoes such as cycling etc.
Classic
This is a classic design suitable for flat shoes
Casual
Designed for more casual shoes such a loafers or flat lace ups.
Dress
For smart ladies shoes or men’s formal footwear.
Fashion
Tapered for ladies court shoes/high heels and additional padding in the ball of the foot area.

All the above styles can be catered for children.
Off The Shelf
These insoles can be purchased in shops. Some specialists heat mould the insoles to your feet standing but these may provide a little support to your arches, they do not provide correction which custom made orthotics would.
